Before confession, the Priest shall make the sign of the cross, and say;

The Lord be in thy heart and on thy lips, that thou + mayest rightly confess thy sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

After the confession, the Priest shall say;

May Almighty God have mercy upon thee, forgive thee thy sins, and bring thee to everlasting life. Amen.

— or —

May the Almighty and merciful Lord grant unto thee pardon, absolution, and remission of thy sins. Amen.

— or —

As the servant of our Lord Jesus Christ, I declare thee freed from thy sins, in the name of the Father +, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
