Origen of Alexandria is considered by many to be the greatest of all theologians. He was able to see the synthesis between the mystical ideas of Plato and deep Christian mysticism. Origen's work stressed intense freedom of individual souls, which confused traditional followers of Plato because Origen's individual freedom challenges Plato's fatalism. He insisted that we will all be reunited with the Godhead eventually, which angered non-Christians such as Celsus and made many contemporary Christians suspicious and annoyed.
